Great Photos: More Than Just Unobtrusive Background Work

At events, a photographer should observe many things unobtrusively: from a distance, close to the decisive moments, and ready to react immediately. This is how genuine, spontaneous shots are created. However, a large portion of valuable images only emerge when the photographer consciously makes contact and actively shapes a situation.

Even eye contact, a gesture towards the camera, a genuine smile, or directly addressing individuals and groups enables photos that purely passive photography cannot produce. Especially at large or initially anonymous events, the photographer often becomes the focal point of communication: They create connections, bring people together, arrange groups, and provide confidence regarding posture, demeanor, and appearance.

They pay attention to the best light and also help in difficult conditions. For example, in dazzling sunlight, I count down so that everyone can briefly close their eyes beforehand and open them at the right moment. If a group doesn't want to smile, it's my job to create an unusual, genuine moment. Often it's a spontaneous „Yippee!“, sometimes teeth, laughter, or cheesecake help – anything is allowed that makes people look friendly and, ideally, heartily laughing into the camera.

People want to see people. Often, those who are rarely photographed are particularly important. Otherwise, the legitimate question arises later: „Didn't you photograph this person?“ Therefore, whenever possible, I photograph older individuals alone, as a couple, and in family groups. Sometimes these become the last beautiful shots – and thus images of special value. The same applies to families, friends, or groups who rarely meet.

This responsibility sounds obvious, but I had to learn it over many years. Even today, I see commemorative publications with 25-year-old photographs. People recount how young someone was then, who is no longer alive, and what individual people accomplished. Often, the sentence follows: „That's what this photographer captured back then.“ Good photographers leave behind a lasting legacy of memories with their work.

What applies to people can be transferred to landscapes, houses, businesses, and entire regions. Often, we only recognize the value of a photographic moment when something has changed or no longer exists. When an event is over, memories remain – and the photos of special encounters. That's exactly what a photographer is for.

Portraits That Showcase Personality and Expertise

A good portrait doesn't just look professional. It conveys personality, builds trust, and suits the individual, the company, and its intended use. Therefore, lighting, perspective, background, and visual language are not created according to a rigid scheme, but rather from a clear briefing and relaxed collaboration.

Studio, Workplace, or Outdoor

I work in the Altötting, Mühldorf, Rottal-Inn, Passau, Traunstein, and Landshut areas, as well as in neighboring Upper Austria. For companies and larger productions, I am also available nationwide.

Flexible Delivery

Depending on the project, you will receive fully edited JPG files, selected RAW files, RAW with culling, or a prepared Lightroom catalog. This allows my work to be integrated into existing agency, editorial, and marketing workflows.

Natural Retouching and a Consistent Image Look

Portrait retouching aims to present people favorably without altering their personality. Skin, clothing, distracting details, and backgrounds are therefore processed purposefully and transparently. For demanding retouching and cut-outs, I use Lightroom, Photoshop, and Evoto, depending on the motif.

Fast Workflow with Custom AI Profile

Aftershoot supports me with selection and basic RAW processing. My custom editing profile has been trained with over 50,000 personally finalized photos. This accelerates large series and ensures consistent colors, exposure, and contrasts. Each important image is then manually reviewed and individually refined as needed.

The AI does not generate artificial people or situations. It assists with culling and developing the actual RAW files photographed. I describe the specific process, our delivery methods, and the advantages of the trained profile on Aftershoot & AI Image Processing. An overview of other tools can be found under Software and AI in Photography.

Quality Tailored to Your Purpose

From quick employee portraits to elaborate advertising shots, the scope of editing is determined in advance. This way, you pay for the quality and variations your project actually requires.

Portrait Workshops and Training

For over 20 years, I have taught photography and image editing for companies, projects, individual training sessions, and workshops. Content can be directly tied to a specific portrait project – from lighting and posing to RAW development and retouching. You can find more information at the Portrait Photography Workshop.
