We have been using AI continuously since November 2022, and we find it increasingly valuable every day.

This article was outdated, so it has been heavily condensed. However, it's interesting to see how the beginnings and the search for the practical benefits of AI started. Images from three years ago now look less professional by comparison. But it was a time when improvements were made daily. Today, we have long since arrived at photorealism. Midjourney's strength, however, was always to appear more artistic from the start. The banner also dates from this period.

What do we use AI-generated images from Midjourney and co. for?

Mockups

Mockup templates are needed in many areas of commercial photography. They are usually created with transparent PNGs, which can later be easily filled with their own layer. This allows products to be presented better and in an appealing atmosphere.

We used Chat GPT to get frontal views of unspecified clean rooms. This provides many different suggestions.

Website Banner Backgrounds

Since we also create websites, we constantly need special motifs. In addition to our extensive portfolio of real photos, we often need striking backgrounds that usually only serve as a backdrop. When creating them, an idea generated via Chat GPT quickly leads to a wide selection of material. The 'Speed of Light' series also originated from the idea for a banner. We sort these images in our portfolio and, if necessary, quickly create new material.

Background repeaters were widespread at the dawn of the internet, but even today, repeating patterns are still needed for gift wrap and especially for virtually covering 3D objects. These can be filled with any ideas in an instant and created in any aspect ratio.

Creating 360° Equirectangular Fantasy Worlds

In addition to our extensive collection of sky replacements, we also utilize artificially generated skies. These can be scaled from over 3000px on the long edge to 12584px, which is sufficient even for large prints. This is made possible by using Stable Diffusion and a tool specifically designed for landscapes. By omitting landscapes "in the middle of a flat ocean," it is possible to create complete 360° skies extending to the horizon. We also create equirectangular panoramas and virtual tours using traditional methods, rapidly in HDR without nadir or zenith holes – ready for your website or digital brochure.

Here you can see an example of a New Zealand landscape. This 360° image beautifully summarizes all the beauties of New Zealand. In the gallery below, we created 360° skies extending to the horizon and combined them with a photo in the fourth image. The advantage of this technique is that on-site, even a 12mm lens and a normal tripod are sufficient to create a complete panorama.

Versatility with Challenging Topics

Honestly, what comes to mind when you think about security? What started with an inquiry about data protection quickly grew into a larger portfolio. A great advantage is that, in addition to photorealistic content, illustrations can also be generated from the prompt. No one needs to worry about the idea. All motifs are freely conceived and generated as prompts. This way, you expand your own ideas many times over and create between 10 and 25 images per hour, depending on the topic.

Photography and AI: A Complementary Partnership

What is not possible in photography due to a lack of motifs or legal reasons can very likely be created using AI. Midjourney, in particular, delivers photorealistic results that are hardly distinguishable from real images. It will never replace a photo shoot at a company or a wedding, but general motifs can be implemented very quickly.Â

Just as in photography, AI images are also edited. The effort involved is roughly the same.

Chat GPT

While Midjourney excels at visual representation, ChatGPT's output can seem less dynamic. However, the results are impressive. You can find a simple example right here on this page:

You may have noticed that the images in the DIVI Gallery enlarge, no longer have an overlay, and lack descriptions. While searching for a solution on Google and YouTube was initially successful, I encountered overlapping images when enlarging them. Such minor issues can consume hours.

ChatGPT allows you to interact and solve problems effectively. Its explanations make ChatGPT a clear winner compared to Google and YouTube tutorials.

Here is the 1:1 copy of ChatGPT's answer to my problem:

If the image is not contained within a column in the DIVI grid, you can position it within a "positioned" CSS box to ensure it stays within its parent element and doesn't overlap other elements.

1. Add a CSS class to the parent element, e.g., "my-image-container".

2. Add the following CSS code:

This code positions the image within its parent box and scales it by 20% on mouseover. The "overflow: hidden;" property prevents the image from extending beyond the boundaries of the parent element.

This should resolve the issue and enlarge the image within its parent element without overlapping other elements.

Understanding Formulas

In ChatGPT, you can open a dedicated thread for each topic, and within that thread, the AI remembers what you've taught it. If you want the Midjourney formula to be completed, you first need to train it. This makes the tool increasingly powerful, enabling it, for example, to automatically answer German queries in English or to learn restricted terms so they can be rephrased for sensitive topics.

All Types of Texts

We use ChatGPT to shorten texts, translate them, and convert them into prompts. At the end of February, I attempted to translate a Tyrolean dialect text using Google Translate, but it didn't work at all. ChatGPT translated everything correctly except for one word, which could then be refined with a specific instruction. Shortening texts to any desired character count always works reliably.

ChatGPT can write and explain songs, screenplays, poems, jokes, and even legal texts. As a result, we no longer write many things ourselves, since the output and content are typically 80-90% accurate and can then be refined by us.

We have also generated fairy tales from photos and photos from fairy tales. This works almost every time, and the stories are quite good, or at least better than what I could have written myself.

We also generate keywords for stock photos ourselves. ChatGPT creates these keywords, shuffles them, or even adds new ones upon request. Therefore, it is definitely worthwhile to use formulas and texts.
